Educational stages
A path of excellence and international future
Home > Educational stages
At the Lycée Français de Bilbao, we accompany each student through all stages of their development, combining academic rigor, well-being, and an international vision.
Our educational project combines academic rigor and well-being, with close support that reinforces confidence, autonomy, and a love of learning. It is based on active pedagogy, respect for each student's pace, and genuine multilingualism from day one (French, Spanish, English, and Basque), fostering values such as curiosity, responsibility, respect, and critical thinking.
The curriculum is built progressively, stage by stage: in Kindergarten, children learn by playing and exploring in a safe environment; in Primary School, the foundations are consolidated with projects, experiments, and technology; in Secondary School, students develop their own judgment, research skills, and personalized guidance; and in the Lycée, the dual qualification (French Baccalaureate and Spanish qualification) opens access to universities in Spain, France, and worldwide.

Early childhood education (3 to 6 years)
A school for personal development and early learning in a safe and happy environment
Learning through play, exploring with the senses, and growing in 4 languages from day one. Early childhood education, the first stage of a child’s school career, is a crucial stage for the development of students, especially with regard to language development, and for their subsequent success. Thanks to a pedagogical program specially adapted to the level of development and maturity of early childhood, it lays the necessary foundations for the acquisition of fundamental knowledge and establishes a school experience based on self-confidence and the development of a taste for learning and living together.
The first fundamental mission of early childhood education is, therefore, to create the conditions for the child to feel safe both in their school environment and in their learning. The attention paid to each individual and to the awakening of their personality allows them to find in the school a place for individual and collective development.
The second fundamental mission is to lay the foundations of basic learning, around two priorities: language and the first mathematical concepts.
- Natural immersion in French, Spanish, English, and Basque
- Cognitive and socio-emotional development
- Active methodology based on play and exploration
Primary education (6-11 years)
Building confidence, autonomy, and a desire to learn
In primary school, learning becomes discovery: science with experiments, creative projects, and mastery of three languages. Primary school caters to students from 6 to 11 years old in two cycles (cycle 2 and the beginning of cycle 3) and five class levels: cours préparatoire (CP), cours élémentaire 1 année (CE1), cours élémentaire 2e année (CE2), cours moyen 1re année (CM1) and cours moyen 2e année (CM2).
- Interdisciplinary projects and early learning in the use of technology
- Reinforcement of plurilingualism (French, Spanish, English, and Basque)
- Values: responsibility, curiosity, and respect

Secondary school: the College years (11-15 years)
Fostering talent in an international environment
Secondary school is a stage of transformation. With debates, research, technological projects, and personalized guidance, our students discover their talents and learn to think critically.
- Collaborative learning and research projects
- International language certifications
- Vocational guidance to support their development
Teaching adapted to the needs so that each student develops their potential and makes the most of what they have already learned, the adaptability of pedagogical methods, such as diversification or differentiation, allows the teacher to offer a framework conducive to the acquisition of skills.
Baccalaureate: the Lycée stage (15-18 years)
Excellence and a future without borders
The LYCEE stage connects school life with university life. With the French Baccalauréat and the Spanish qualification, our students access elite universities in Spain, France, and the world. Critical thinking, research, and personal confidence are consolidated here.
The Seconde class allows students to consolidate and expand their mastery of the basic knowledge, skills, and culture common to successfully making the transition from secondary school to high school. It prepares them to decide on their path within the final cycle until they obtain the general baccalaureate degree.
- Double qualification (French and Spanish)
- Personalized guidance for higher education
- Solid academic preparation and international vision
- Access to the best universities
An international education, a united community, a bright future
De Infantil al Bachillerato, cada etapa en el Lycée Français de Bilbao prepara a los estudiantes para ser plurilingües, críticos, felices y capaces de alcanzar sus metas en cualquier lugar del mundo.
