French International Baccalaureate (BFI)

Improvement of linguistic skills to the highest level

The French International Baccalaureate (BFI) is a new and flexible system that is particularly well-suited to students in French schools abroad, as it allows them to strengthen their already remarkable skills in several foreign languages (level C1 to C2 by the end of Terminale – Year 13).

Improving the quality of the students’ curricula

With the BFI, students can explore innovative pedagogical methods that are open to the world, such as the Knowledge of the World subject. Furthermore, the BFI recognizes the quality of the students’ studies, as well as their commitment and effort, thanks to its high value in terms of coefficients and visibility on the diploma itself.

To offer greater flexibility to students in their school career.

At the Lycée Français de Bilbao, the introduction of specific Première and Terminale classes leading to the French International Baccalaureate (BFI) is part of an ambitious project aimed at developing proficiency in foreign languages and enhancing the international education of students enrolled in the French school system. Its objective is to create multilingual pathways, increase exposure to foreign languages, and enrich the international culture of the students.

Since the 2024 academic year, the school has offered the BFI in two programs: trilingual and quadrilingual.

To access the BFI, students must have passed level B2 in foreign language A and B1 in foreign languages B (trilingual itinerary) and C (quadrilingual itinerary).
